René Douville

René Douville is past Director, National Client Group of RBC Capital Markets. As such,
he was responsible for managing relationships with mid market public and private companies
in Quebec addressing all their financial needs through RBC’s suite of lending products and
capital markets advisory services.
René is an experienced leader and strategic thinker with more than 30 years experience
with a broad range of financial instruments. Over the years he has worked with large
multinational organizations to the smallest technology focused start-up companies.
His expertise ranges from corporate lending to equity management and working with
both public and private companies. He possesses acute business development skills
and an extensive network. René can leverage a strong track record in developing
successful greenfield businesses. He has also created and implemented leading
edge strategies for large financial institutions, various venture funds and
rapid growing technology focused companies. René is comfortable working in
ever changing environments and takes particular pleasure in coaching and
managing performance-driven teams.
His practical knowledge of corporate governance with experience in strategic
industry associations, advisory boards, granting and government agencies have
positioned him well to drive and influence the direction of key organizations.
Among other things, René was a member of the Expert Panel of the Advisory Council
on Science and Technology (ACST) to the Prime Minister for the Commercialization
of University Research, a member of the Biopharmaceutical Committee of La Fédération
des chambres de commerce du Québec, and until 2010, a member of the boards of the
Center of Excellence in Personalized Medicine of the Montreal Heart Institute and
of BioteCanada. In addition to being on the Board of Genome Canada since June 2010,
he is currently a member of the board of the Cercle Canadien de Montréal.
Throughout his career, René has always been very active in the community by doing
volunteer work and raising funds for various charities. He is also the President of a
public high school governance committee and a member of its Foundation.
René hold a Bachelor of Commerce degree from McGill University and completed an international
MBA Program from Les Hautes Études Commerciales and Cranfield School of Management in England.
