Professor Si Lok is the Scientific Director of Genome Research Centre and Chair of Genomic Medicine, The Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong. He received his training from The University of Toronto, Canada [(PhD (Medical Genetics, Toronto), MSc (Molecular Botany, Toronto), BSc (Microbiology, Toronto)] in the areas of microbiology, medical biophysics and botany.

Professor Lok had a long, successful career in the bio-industrial sector where he has a proven track record of technological innovation, leading large multidisciplinary drug discovery programs and exploiting scientific opportunities with market potential for therapeutic development. Accomplishments include the discovery of thrombopoietin and other drugs using high-throughput screening and genomics, holder of more than 25 issued United States patents, as well as authorships in scores of peer reviewed publications.

He is an authority and consults extensively in areas of biotechnology, regenerative biology, drug discovery and genomics. At the University of Hong Kong Genome Research Centre, Professor Lok is making use of the new generation ultra-high throughput DNA sequencing platforms to address relevant problems in genomics and medicine.
