In October 2006 Genome Canada launched a competition focused on the development of new technologies applicable to genomics and proteomics research.

The goal of the competition is to develop new and improved technology that will be broadly applicable to genomics, proteomics, or related areas. The term "technology" denotes methods and tools that enable research including, but not limited to, instrumentation and/or devices, techniques, and software.

Results for this competition were announced on May 5th, 2008 and $9.37 million was invested in 13 technology development projects for a duration of 2 years.
