International GE3LS Symposium 2008
Navigating the Changing Landscape

GE3LS researchers work in and at the boundaries of academic disciplines, taking up rapidly evolving problems posed genomics in a context of changing expectations. Successful research now requires constant attention - from formation of research questions to translation and uptake. GE3LS researchers must navigate this changing landscape of contexts, issues and priorities.

The 2008 International GE3LS Symposium was an opportunity for GE3LS and genomics researchers to reconnect, share their research, and highlight the best in recent GE3LS research. It provided an opportunity for GE3LS researchers to consider how developments in science, technology and policy bear on GE3LS research priorities and activities.

The first day set the context: "Regional Landscapes" was an opportunity to tour the GE3LS landscape. Researchers from Canada and around the world reconnected, shared their research, and highlighted the best in recent GE3LS research. On day two, in "Contemporary GE3LS in Theory and Practice" we considered issues in current GE3LS research, and looked ahead at new needs and opportunities likely to drive changing research agendas in the Genome Canada community and beyond. In the final day we considered "The Difference GE3LS Makes" by exploring the sometimes conflicting expectations facing GE3LS researchers as their work nears completion and stakeholders call for results they can use.
