On June 4, 2015, Genome Canada launched a new funding opportunity – the 2015 Large-Scale Applied Research Project Competition Natural Resources and the Environment: Sector Challenges – Genomic Solutions. This funding opportunity aimed to support projects focused on using genomic approaches to address challenges and opportunities of importance to Canada’s natural resources and environment sectors, including interactions between natural resources and the environment, thereby contributing to the Canadian bioeconomy and the well-being of Canadians.
Results of the competition were announced on December 8, 2016. Thirteen projects received a total of $110 million: $32 million in federal support through Genome Canada and $78 million invested by co-funders from provinces, international organizations and the private sector, among other partners.
