Making the sector more profitable and sustainable

Canada is well positioned to apply genomics to the development of productive and healthy forests. We have one of the best conifer genomics platforms in the world and our research is helping to offset the impacts of climate change, boost forest productivity, monitor biodiversity and track invasive species for trees of economic importance, such as the white spruce and balsam fir. Further, it is seen as a powerful enabler in diversifying the forest industry from pulp, paper and lumber into a high-margin bioproducts-based industry.
